Astorga, what a wonderful gem of a city with its medieval walls. I refuse to bore you with pics of all the cathedrals on the way but I'm going to make an exception for the Palace Episcopal. A Bishop commissioned Gaudi to design/build a palace as the Bishop's residence. However, after only the basement & first floor were finished, the Bishop died and interest/funding faded. Gaudi went on to other projects and this palace sat unfinished until in 1963 another Bishop resurrected interest and work again began. No one has ever resided in the palace and when it was finished it was dedicated to artifacts commemorating pilgrims on the camino. Fitting, as this is where several caminos converge:The Camino Frances (the one we are on), the Roman Road ( Via Aquitana) and the Via de La Plata (Roman Silver route) from Seville
