Pilgrim Monument with burn pit
Faro - End of the Camino
Translates to Lands-End or “End of the World” and from pre-historic times to the middle ages, it was quite literally the end of the known world. The famous lighthouse actually marks the end of the camino.  On the rocks below the lighthouse there is a fire pit where pilgrims can burn an item of old clothing or some other token to represent the” letting-go of the old in order to awaken the new.”  Had to remind Jerry that it is a symbolic gesture and that there was no need for him to burn his entire wardrobe! We saw almost every conceivable piece of clothing hung from rocks and other structures that didn’t actually get burned so not sure exactly how that might work.
