If you truly do attain wisdom by removing things, then Jerry is
much much wiser today. As he sipped his café
con leche across the street, I stood in line at the Correros to mail some
things to lighten his backpack. Nothing
essential, just some of his excess toys and his towel since he thinks I will
just share mine. Just outside the town
is an ancient Benedictine Monastery and the famous Bodega Irache wine
fountain. The Monk’s tradition of
offerring wine for the pilgrims to fortify themselves for the journey ahead. Nine in the morning seemed a
bit early but many were taking advantage of the tradition. Just up the Camino we came upon a “soon to be
pilgrim” who was asking for donations so he could buy a donkey for his
journey. He had a hat full of coins, so
he should pass us any day!! Since the
alburgues fill up early every day, we decided to stop early and to splurge. For 15 euros @, we got a private room (still bunk beds)
and a wonderful private bath.
