Casual day on the Camino

Sunday and we decided to take a casual day of hiking
and enjoy the sites a bit more. Along
the route was a monument “Roldan’s Hill” where legend has it Roldan slew the
Muslim giant Ferragut with a well-aimed rock….sound familiar? Arrived at our destination at noon only to find a huge festival in progress…not a
good sign for obtaining a bed…in fact absolutely everything was full and with
premium prices. We were told that even the next town was full as well….so being the seasoned
travelers that we are, we decided that we would just take a bus beyond the next
village to where we should be able to find something. However, while we are waiting for the
bus, Jerry found a Hostel, pleaded his case and actually got us a bedroom
in a three bedroom flat with an adjoining bath.
Before long every bedroom was filled with a truly international
group…Australia, Brazil, Spain & Korea. Of course the traditional fireworks didn't end until well after midnight. The next morning we heard that they opened the gymnasium and housed over 80 pilgrims on the floor.
